Four Day Weeks
The data scientist is a mid-weight role that requires at least 3 years agency or in-house experience data wrangling and putting together analytical reports to drive meaningful insights from the data.
This is a permanent, full time role for people with the right to work in the UK, working from our London Bridge office. This is not a remote or freelance position.
The job is part creative and analytical.
You will be working with the creative and data team to help come up with cool new data journalism campaigns by looking at interesting data sets around the web in order to feed the creative team the data to make cool data visualisations similar to the ones seen on:
You are expected to have advanced excel and google sheets skills as well as an intermediate understanding of web databases such as SQL and Big Query. You are also expected to have a rudimentary working knowledge of Python or a similar language used to query large datasets.
The data scientist (consultant level) is a delivery role, primarily around:
- finding, scraping, extracting and building datasets that are of interest
- Cleaning and wrangling into a useable format to query
- Querying the data to produce insights and story points
- building compelling visuals to tell the story
You will also be expected to do things like:
- work with large datasets via APIs
- clean and wrangle data in databases and spreadsheets
- scrape web pages at scale to build your own datasets
- work with designers and developers to make your datasets into beautiful data visualisations
- work autonomously to and with a high degree of rigour to present accurate data and reporting to our lead data scientist
This role is client facing and you should be able to write cogent explanations about the datasets to the layman and be able to explain concepts and deliver insights to non-technical client stakeholders.
Type A are a transparent business with each level of job published internally with salary brackets and responsibilities.
The data scientist (consultant level) role involves supporting our lead data scientist and creative team to provide clean and queryable data sets.
Your role will also involve training more junior members of the data team to learn new data scraping and analysis techniques and help them grow into a more senior role. However, you will not be expected to line manage any team members.
You should be expert with
- Excel & Sheets
- SQL databases
- Creating dashboards
- Creating data visualisations
You should be intermediate with
- Jupyter Labs or similar
- Data visualisation techniques
You should have a basic understanding of
- Adobe illustrator
Work & Life Balance
Type A work a 35 hour week over 4 days, from Monday to Thursday, meaning you get 3 day weekends. This is the equivalent of getting 80 days off per year.
You still get paid a full pro rata annual salary. So the salary number you are quoted is your full annual salary, no deductions. You are paid as if you work a full working week.
You get 16 days of bookable holiday allowance on top of the Friday's off. This needs to be taken as a 4 day block so you have 4 weeks of paid holiday over and above the Friday's off.
Everyone gets a £1000 training budget to spend on books, training courses and anything that will further your career development.
We will pay up to £50 a month for a gym membership or for you to go to any health classes like Yoga, Jui Jitsu or even surfing......as long as it's a health and wellness pursuit.
We sign you up for a Headspace account for the year so you can prioritise mental health
We will also give you a Spotify family account to get your favourite jam on when commuting or at the office.
We are not talking some old milk and some tea bags in the kitchen. We buy Monouth coffee and a variety of non dairy milks every week as well as speciality Tea Pigs tea to keep you powered up throughout the day.
We naturally also have a beer fridge that is stocked up with plenty of adult treats.
Bi-annual company away day
We go for a big company away day every 6 months to recharge and refresh and have a bit of fun.
Every month we go for a nice sit down meal across London to relax and unwind and get to know each other a bit better
Many of our team speak at conferences and do regular webinars and online appearances.....some even have their own web show.
Although, not essential, you will have the opportunity to grow your online presence within the industry and demonstrate your expertise to the wider world by being an agency brand ambassador.
