Index on Censorship, one of the world’s leading freedom of expression organisations, is looking for a Head of Operations to help support the organisation as it embarks on new projects. This is a key new post, reporting to the Chief Executive.
If you have a keen eye for detail, are passionate about delivering to a deadline and able to ensure operations run smoothly, then this could be the job for you.
Index on Censorship is a London-based charity that campaigns on issues of censorship and supports those facing threats to their freedom of expression. We are a small organisation good at making a lot of noise: we publish an award-winning quarterly magazine, engage in advocacy on key issues related to free speech, and run a lively events programme.
The organisation, which turns 50 in two years, is moving into an exciting phase of its development, with new projects launching in the United States and UK, and the Head of Operations will play a key role in ensuring Index can remain effective during this busy time.
The Head of Operations will be responsible for ensuring the effective operational running of Index on Censorship and have overall responsibility for the functions of:
- Grant management and donor reporting
- Project management
- Overseeing finance, HR and office management functions
The Head of Operations will be initially responsible for ensuring two new US and two new UK projects are delivered on time and to budget, including management of two new part-time positions being created for these projects, and for managing the reporting of Index’s current major grants. In addition, the Head of Operations will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of financial reports from the Head of Finance/HR who will report directly to the Head of Operations.
Part of the senior management team, the ideal candidate will have experience of managing projects and grants at a senior level and be a highly organised decision-maker. You must also have the flexibility to work with different parts of this small organisation and be an excellent team player.
The position is being created initially for six months but with the possibility of extension for the right candidate. Index is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. Flexible and remote working may be considered.
Closing date for applications: May 31
First interviews: Week commencing June 10
